This road that runs below Carn Menun is a special cycle route in heart as it’s the area my mother lived as a child on a farm in Mynachlog ddu. The open road over rolling hills is a great place to see the best these famous Preseli Hills has to offer.
Much of the upland is boggy with rare acid tolerant plants like fir clubmoss, liverwort, ferns and orchids with insects like the marsh fritillary butterfly and the southern damselfly but the best time is when the heather is in bloom. The drier heathland in late summer provides hideouts and hunting places for buzzards and kestrels. In the winter this place is a world away from most and requires a few layers of clothing and a big coat.
"Below Carn Menun" refers to an area or location situated lower in elevation compared to Carn Menun, a prominent hill in the Preseli Hills of Pembrokeshire, Wales. The village of Mynachlog-ddu is located on a plateau below Carn Menun.
