I was with a group of enthusiastic ramblers taking on the Welsh 3000s, and this section marked roughly the halfway point of our walk. It had already been a challenging day starting at 4am, with another 10km out and back hike ahead to the summit of Glyder Fawr, starting from the Nant Peris car park.
It was a very hot day, and the path rose steeply alongside the Afon Las toward Llyn y Cwn, before leading onto a loose, unforgiving scree slope up to the summit. This route offered a quieter, less trafficked alternative to the paths from Pen-y-Pass or Ogwen Valley not an easy walk by any means, but one that was especially hard on the legs.
At the foot of the climb, we all gathered to rest, eat, and drink. I took the opportunity to capture a few photos and make some quick sketches best to do it while I could, before the group disappeared ahead and I’d be left on my own. The walk always feels easier with company, and in that moment, surrounded by shared effort and quiet determination, it felt just a little more manageable.
