In fact, some of the best locations are usually the lesser-known spots where you’ll find yourself on the coastal path, all alone. You simply have to set that alarm and have the endeavour to seek the locations out.
One of the best places to see a sunrise in Pembrokeshire is from Tenby Harbour. Most parts of Pembrokeshire have a westerly facing coastline which benefits from a sunset rather than a sunrise but there are one or two places I love to admire and paint.
I have stood many times on this beach, early morning with a Welsh Flag in one hand and a camera in the other on Iron Man Day. The flag big enough to be seen from the harbour walls and far along the beach. I’m there to support the effort these athletes have put in to get to this point and somewhat am envious. But my attention is always on the detail of the surrounding walls, buildings and cloud formation, and if you can get to see the golden sunrise on the horizon it warms you up for the rest of the day.
Due to its southerly easterly facing direction, Pembrokeshire’s most popular seaside town has to be one of the best places to watch the sunrise. Steeped in ancient history and surrounded by an imposing medieval stone wall. No matter the time of year you should have an unobstructed view of the sunrise. Depending on what time of year you visit, the best place to watch the sunrise from, would either be from Castle hill or above the harbour, but for me it’s from in front of Fisherman’s Church
