St Illtyd’d Cresent, Swansea

Part of my first solo exhibitions set in Swansea I managed to paint a large scale image of the industrial part of Swansea from St Illtyd’d Street. I wanted to paint this image to indicate that Swansea’s development was once a major port in the eighteenth century when a rapid expansion in local coal mining, iron together with the introduction of copper smelting and tinplate manufacture, resulted in the establishment of many new workhouses along the banks of the River Tawe.
